  5. Is Your Nutrition Still in Holiday Mode?

We’ve all been there. We make every effort to stay on top of our nutrition and be consistent with training. We formulate great habits and get into a solid routine. Then somewhere around late November/early December things start to unravel.

Life gets a bit crazy. It ain’t called the silly season for nothing! Suddenly your good habits and your solid routine are starting to fall by the waist side. That’s exactly what happened to me.

It started off slowly so I felt I had everything under control. But as work became more hectic, life became more hectic and the number of functions increased, by the time Christmas and New Year had come and gone I was completely off track.

It was well into the first week of January and I was still having a “cheeky” glass (or two) of wine each night. I was still grazing the day away rather than pre-portioning out my snacks (I am terrible when it comes to aimless snacking). I couldn’t be bothered preparing meals so I was eating out more. I was going back for dessert seconds all the time. These were old habits that I thought I’d conquered.

The worst part about it is you feel you’ve gone so far off track you couldn’t ever possibly get back. So how do you snap out of it and get yourself back on track? Sometimes it will take one moment to snap you out of it. Maybe you step on the scales for the first time in a while, maybe your jeans don’t quite fit as well. Sometimes you need a buddy to keep you accountable. Either way you need a plan. Here’s my plan:

I tested my biometrics last week and formulated some goals around them. I’ll be giving myself one action step to achieve each week in an effort to kick things off: No second helpings of dessert! That’s week 1. From there I can start to add additional action steps each week!

I’ll also be roping in my boyfriend, Matthew, for support and accountability. He’ll be in charge of keeping an eye on dessert consumption and monitoring any other action steps I give myself.

Is your nutrition still in holiday mode? Time to take action!
